This page needs fixing pretty badly, but there are too many things wrong to use all of their templates. It needs wikifying, it needs sources, and it needs to be edited for proper tone. It looks to me like original research, but this isn't my field of expertise. 65.33.231.56 05:30, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.darkside.com.au/mba/cali.html - here's the original, it's a lot better organized than this sloppy cut and paste. Rarr 06:20, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The phrase "ethnic gangs" offends me, and I'm not even a beaner TobyCallahan 3:54, 24 July 2006

Tobacco, Alcohol, and Valium are NOT narcotics... Tobacco is a stimulant (nicotine), alcohol is a depressant, and Valium is a depressant/benzodiazepine... I would say even that cocaine is not a narcotic but rather a stimulant (although it was classified as a narcotic over 90 years ago, so that's what it is considered)...

From AP, September 26, 2006:

"MIAMI - Two Colombian brothers pleaded guilty Tuesday to U.S. drug trafficking and money laundering charges stemming from their roles as founders of the Cali cocaine cartel and agreed to forfeit billions of dollars and assets linked to their drug trade.

Gilberto, 67, and Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela, 63, made their pleas in an agreement reached after months of negotiations with several U.S. agencies. A separate deal described in court will protect six of the brothers' relatives in Colombia from prosecution on obstruction of justice and money laundering charges."

This article needs copy-editing. It reads as if it were a weak translation from Spanish. 211.225.33.104 (talk) 08:18, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is 1998 the end date?

False claims

[edit]

The parts about "Jorge Alberto Rodriguez" and "The 400" are largely fabricated.

(1) Jorge Alberto Rodriguez Herrera (JARH) is a real person and is related to the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers. JARH was deported by US authorities after he tried to enter New York in 1995[1] and was listed as Specially Designated Narcotics Trafficker by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in 2003[2]. In 2006 JARH was among the 28 family members of Rodriguez Orejuela brothers who signed an agreement with the US authorities regarding the forfeiture of Cali Cartel assets[3] and in 2009 was removed from OFAC's trafficker list[4]. No connection is established between the identities of JARH and Jorge Alberto Rodriguez (JAR), who as per this Wikipedia article (rev. 799486057, 09/09/2017) "was arrested after attempting to import 100 kilos of cocaine into Tallahassee, Florida". Indeed, such a connection would be most unlikely considering JAR was already presumably prisoned[5] when JARH tried to enter the country in 1995.

(2) No source listed in this article establishes (a) a connection between JAR and the Cali Cartel. No source listed in this article provides proof (b) that JARH participated in the criminal activities described in this article. No source listed in this article even (c) mentions "The 400". Actually I was unable to find one single source not obviously originating from this article or the Jorge Alberto Rodriguez article supporting (a) or (b) or doing (c).

Hello. Can you briefly state what is the problem? Is Jorge Alberto Rodriguez Herrera (JARH) real or a character fabricated for the series NARCOS? -BatteryIncluded (talk) 18:08, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The problem: "Jorge Alberto Rodriguez", as presented in this article and the Jorge Alberto Rodriguez article, is a fabricated person--a Wikipedia hoax (nothing to do with NARCOS). This fabrication is partly based on two different and real identities, JAR and JARH. As far as the sources tell, JAR and JARH are not particularly notable people; JAR was an ordinary drug smuggler, JARH is a relative of former Cali Cartel leaders. "Jorge Alberto Rodriguez" (the fabrication) is then connected to completely made-up stuff, e.g. "The 400". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.90.44.25 (talk) 19:05, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Russian state connections - proposed deletion

[edit]

The section on the Russian State connections is really weird. It has basically one source with some indirect allegations regarding an intermediary that might have links to Putin and might have laundered money for the Cali cartel. The date of the information is past the quoted end-date of the Cali cartel and therefore appears irrelevant. In any case links to the Russian state hardly seems to have played any prominent role in the organisation of the Cali cartel so the information is at best anecdotal. Unles there are objections I propose that it be completely deleted.
